So after 10 years
England finally regained the Ashes.
With Australia chasing 228 (almost 6
an over) and in tatters at 70 for 7
it seemed like the beer tent would be
invaded prematurely.
After an extended
lunch break, strawberries and cream,
egg and spoon races and other such festive
delights, the Australians went out to
bat. Surely England would win this year,
wouldn't they? It looked like that was
inevitable until a catch was dropped,
then another, then another and then
another. How could this happen?
8 needed off the
last over with one wicket left. And
then it was one ball left with four
to tie and five or six to win. The last
batsman gamely tried to find the boundary
but only succeeded in getting two before
being easily run out - game over and
England had won by two runs with Australia
226 all out.
