A full house of fifty BABC members and non-members gathered to hear Russ Mansky and Tom Spott from Spott, Lucey and Wall Inc., CPAs unravel the mine of tax legislation relating to Assets held outside the US, a subject that, due to the level of interest and number of questions asked, was pertinent to a large number of the international audience.
Guests were welcomed by BABC Board member Tom Taggart from Barclays Global Investors, who kindly provided the venue for the event in their Conference Room. The event commenced with networking opportunities, and refreshments generously donated by Spott, Lucey and Wall, Inc. CPAs.

June 24, 2006
Huddart Park, Woodside
If at first you DO succeed, then try, try, try again……. That was the formula for the 3rd Annual Great British Banger BBQ which was held in glorious weather on the Peninsula.
All ages were represented at the family event (no upper or lower limits to be mentioned!), and all needed no (or at least very little) encouragement to join in the good old traditional sports events, Egg and Spoon, 3-Legged and Sack Races, supplemented this year by some rather dubious water-filled balloon activities…...
During the sporting events, Master of underhand tactics Stuart Bagshaw suffered minor injuries, sustained in a vain attempt to stamp his Presidential authority on the occasion, being pipped to the post by a 3 year-old into the bargain!
Firefighters' Barbecues coped admirably as always with the food supply, including British Bangers, and thanks go to Golden Brands for supplying the much needed refreshments. The event ended with the Prize draw - our thanks to all sponsors who kindly helped us to make it such a memorable day. 2007? Bring it on!

6, 2005
Santa Clara
On Thursday October 6th, 2005,
the Silicon Valley events committee held its first
of a new series, Executive Spotlight at the Techmart Center in Santa Clara. We were
delighted to feature Peter Robertson, Vice Chairman
of Chevron Corporation as our guest speaker.
Peter
briefly described his career which started after
graduating from university in his home town of
Edinburgh. Since then, he has enjoyed a very impressive
career at Chevron, while working in several locations
across the globe. Peter spent much of the evenings
presentation discussing the very topical and controversial
energy business in his open and engaging style.
As always, attendees enjoyed learning from the
speaker as well as spending valuable networking
time over appetizers and drinks.

Due to the sucess of this
event last year, we decided to do it again! This
family social event was organized in Huddart Park,
on the Peninsula. Activities included traditional
British sports, such as the Egg and Spoon Race,
Sack Race and the 3 Legged Race, plus the 'all
you could eat' barbecue (including authentic British
'bangers'), washed down with wine, beer and sodas.
The
event is an annual one, so watch out for announcements
for 2006.

March
20, 2005
Mr. and Mrs. Wilf J Corrigan's
Private Residence, Los Altos Hills
The BABC's 2005 Silicon Valley
Membership drive was hosted in March by Mr. &
Mrs. Wilfred J. Corrigan at their recently completed
home in Los Altos Hills, which can only be described
as spectacular, and provided a perfect venue for
the event. The event was held on a Sunday and
attracted an attendance of over 60 guests.
Among those were Mr. Martin Uden, British Consul
General, San Francisco who gave an overview of
the functions of the British Consulate-General,
and of upcoming events over the next few months.
Several noted Silicon Valley leaders were present,
enjoying extended discussions on matters of trade
and culture between Northern California and the
United Kingdom. An additional perspective was
provided by Mr. Corrigan, Chairman of LSI Logic
Corporation on topical business matters, and Mrs.
Corrigan kindly provided an overview of the very
interesting development of the European design
theme for the house, and some of the trials and
tribulations of achieving their goals.
Everyone was impressed by the attention to detail
in the design and execution of the property, and
brief tours by the hosts provided ample opportunity
to discuss any matters of interest. The BABC thanked
their hosts for providing such a perfect venue
- a great day was had by all, inspite of some
typically English rain that attendees took in
their stride.

September
15, 2004
Palo Alto
On Wednesday September 15,
2004, members and guests enjoyed a stimulating
look into the future when Professor D. K. Arvind,
Director of Scotland's Speckled Computing Consortium,
gave a presentation on "Speckled Computing",
a radical new concept in information technology,
which could revolutionize the way we gather, exchange
and communicate information. Speckled computing,
which has more computational capability and includes
a peer-to-peer network, builds upon the ‘smart
dust' concept currently under development at Intel
and UC Berkeley. This technology promises to revolutionize
information technology and change the way data
is transmitted across the world with particular
applications in healthcare, education, business
and entertainment.
This event, held at the Stanford Sheraton Hotel,
Palo Alto, was arranged and hosted by Scottish
Development International and co-sponsored by
BABC.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary
of the organization, a family social event was
organized in Huddart Park, on the Peninsula. Activities
included traditional British sports, such as the
Egg and Spoon Race, Sack Race and the 3 Legged
Race, plus the 'all you could eat' barbecue (including
authentic British 'bangers'), washed down with

from under 1 year old to, well, Mostyn's age,
whatever that is. The event is likely to become
an annual one, so watch out for announcements.

June 17,
2004
Santa Clara
On June 17, 2004, members and
guests attended BACC's second annual VC Summit,
which was sponsored and hosted by Silicon Valley
Bank at their corporate headquarters in Santa
Clara.
The event comprised a lively panel discussion,
which was moderated by Larry Lopez, head of private
equity at Silicon Valley Bank. He fired questions
at and stimulated discussion amongst panel members,
Sean Doyle of Intel Capital, Martin Gagen of 3i
and Richard Irving of Pond Ventures. This was
a rare opportunity to hear the expert views of
key VC players from Silicon Valley and the UK.
They discussed current financing trends, market
interests, funding terms and prospects for companies
operating here in the U.S and internationally.
